Demeter's Dream Mandala - (Goddess Series) - © Sue O'Kieffe 2007
I was in an introspective mood when I created this image, but then that's nothing really new for me. Sometimes I hear my art asking to be named in certain ways, and that is what this mandala did. The story of Demeter going to the underworld to rescue her daughter Persephone from Hades is one of my favorite myths.
I would be interested to hear what you see or feel in this image. (I didn't go to the Underworld, by the way; I've been working a temp job this week. It's good to be back)

Sue, I see winter in this mandala, cold and icy days ahead, but also days of beauty to savor. Beautiful.
Hi, Your mandala images are so beautiful. I see ice crystals and frigid winter mornings where you can see your breath when you venture outside. -Karen
Looks so pretty - like ducks' down.
Well, I most definitely see the ice crystals that I saw on my bedroom window when I was a little girl and it was the dead of winter, which is appropriate considering the story. It was impossible to heat the whole house as the only stove was in a downstairs room, it was a coal stove. We lived there until I was eight. Very primitive and cold. But I loved the crystals on my window and made holes in them with my breath. I don't think the winters get that cold anymore, so maybe Persephone isn't in the underworld that much anymore.
I see a beautiful snowflake, so pure and beautiful.
Hi Sue,
I see winter too ... a soft precious winter with beautiful blue also. Reminds me of Dr Zhivago!
Glad you've been back to work!
