O Sole Me-me-o!

o mother sun
I was tagged by both John and Bobbie for the great book meme floating around the blogosphere right now.

The rules: Find Page 123.
Find the first 5 sentences.
Post the next 3 sentences.
Tag 5 people.

I am woefully behind (such is the life of a working girl, these days!). But since I was tagged twice, I thought I would offer two book excerpts.

Isn't it nice how this book cover ties in with the theme of my blog? Heh...

From page 123:

Set to guarding the boat, the weavers were unable to protect it -- or themselves -- from naked women who danced around it until the weavers were roused enough for additional pleasures.

(an excerpt from a chapter on Scandinavian sun goddess myths and rites of spring)

unaccompanied women

and from page 123 :

We wore our circle pins sometimes at the neck just below our Peter Pan collar, sometimes on our lapel if we had one, most often on our sweaters and blouses, on the soft spot below the shoulder and above the breast.

(about growing up as a woman in the '50's)

I am not going to tag anyone. If you liked this game and haven't played, feel free to share what's on your bookshelf.

I know I am remiss as well in acknowledging the gifts and awards I have received around the blogosphere. Life, O Life, when will you give me more time for the digital pleasures I crave? Soon, please soon.

Nice book choices, Sue. Very fun. I loved the first one.

Your Valentine's Day piece is gorgeous, it just glows with color. Which is not unusual for your work; your colors are always inspiring to me.

Not sure if I have esp but my first thought this morning was that I should take up weaving.

The pics are lovely - still weaving them into something quilty.

Regards from commuting train, would rather be in a marsh but tonight as I walked south to train station there was still light in cloud at six PM. Great blue hue gray cerulean with wisps of white in the clouds.

This Book Meme has been a fun thing, as we have gotten to see so many books by so many readers.

Some of them seem very interesting and want to make you go straight to the library to see if they have a copy of it.

Then there is always that wonderful bookstore in the Dominican church which seems to house every book ever printed, if not, they'll order it for you.

Your first book seems very interesting and not at all surprising for some one like you. It's esoteric like you are. Take that as a compliment, please.

Growing up in the '50s and having the old fashioned view as we had back then I can never feel quite comfortable dining alone in a restaurant. Being the feminist that I am I have tried to overcome this but never quite made it.

I would imagine the weavers would have a time guarding the boat what with the naked women dancing around.

Interesting books and so very glad that you could play :)

for as long as i can remember i have identified with the sun. in other online communities my name is dancing sun and so i have investigated mythologies that had sun goddesses. since the overthrow of the patriarchy, the sun has been identified as a masculine energy. the first book explores those mythologies and is actually a little dry for my tastes, though informative. the second book, of the two, is a much closer revelation of that which interests me right now, the exploration of sexuality after 60 (which is galloping towards me at warp speed). im grateful for women such as jane juska who are willing to share the stories of their exploration with those of us looking for such support.
