SUMMER OF LOVE

summer of loveSummer of Love Mandala - (Summer series) - © Sue O'Kieffe 2008

It was 1967 in San Francisco. In Minneapolis I was naively 16 with no idea of the social changes that would transpire over the years to come. I didn't even really know where San Francisco was. Now I live about 300 miles from "The City." Whenever I see neon orange, green, and yellow, it always takes me back to that time in my life. There was a time in my youth when orange was my favorite color.

And now I think back on that time...the music, the ideas, the philosophy, the revolution...we have made progress (at least women aren't wearing white gloves to work anymore!). The Age of Aquarius and the Information Age have come together, and it is easier to realize..interacting with a cyber community all over the world-... how we really are all One.

May we all be made whole in this Circle of Love.

Count me in! the Circle of Love that is...

This mandala is so perfect for today, this time,now... it is also perfect for that time, back then.

One of my favorite songs,
"Wooden ships on the water, very free and easy, you know the way it's supposed to be...

Free and easy were the times. Sure wish we'd see more free and easy.

Hope you are well and enjoying a peaceful weekend.

Happy Independence Day!

Peace - Jefferson Airplane's "Wooden Ships" song came on as I looked for other Airplane lyrics to add here....quite magical moment - lovely and eerie until I remembered you add mucis, sometimes. Dream then thought, bopth good in equal measure.

67 - I was in the City then, a kid, and am now living light years away - it was an important summer, maybe two or three years.

"Volunteers" is one of my desert island disks...

Good Shepherd

If you want to get to heaven
Over on the other shore
Stay out of the way of the blood-stained bandit
Oh good shepherd
Feed my sheep
One for paul
One for silas
One for to make my heart rejoice
Can't you hear my lambs acallin
Oh good shepherd
Feed my sheep
If you want to get to heaven
Over on the other shore
Stay out of the way of the long-tongue liar
Oh good shepherd
Feed my sheep
If you want to get to heaven
Over on the other shore
Stay out of the way of the gun shot devil
Oh good shepherd
Feed my sheep

Wonderful mandala to wake up to...

I was 12 and I had a florescent orange coat!!! I was crazy for orange then and now,if I were to wear it at all, it would have to be "burnt orange"

Ha! Born in 1969 here, though the music (and crazy clothing) from 1967 has always really resonated with me. I think I was floating about in the Bardo realm between lives, determined to take some tie off, when I happened to look down and was like, "WOW!! I have got to get in on that scene!!!" but by the time I got reincarnated and born and everything I was a little behind the curve. :(

At least, that's always what it's felt like to me.
