CROW DRUMS WITH SHAMANS

Crow Drums With Shamans (Power Shield Series) © Sue O'Kieffe 2009
source image: tree branches

There was a lot of activity in those dead tree limbs. Crows cawed, flickers pecked on wood rat-a-tat-a-tat, hummingbirds flitted back and forth between them and the feeder at the house. Something about the way the morning sun shined on the naked branches caught my eye. For the longest time I just soaked it all in, wondering what would happen next. Those were precious moments, and the gifts I received when watering a friend's garden while she was on vacation.

When I created this image, the emotion that it called up in me was what I imagine finding petroglyphs or cave paintings would be like, that sense of awe and history and magic and wonder. It's not unlike how I felt observing those trees. I know everyone will have their own story when they look at this image.

Tell me what yours is.

When we tap into nature's beauty and bounty, it's hard not to come into a sense of awe.
I watched "Deep Blue" last night and I was stunned by what I was seeing.. all those incredible creatures at the deepest parts of our oceans. Amazing......
this mandala -as do all of them- speak volumes to me.
thanks.

I am continually amazed by the images that emerge in your mandalas. It has made me look at the world in a different way.

This mandala seems to have a ring of dream catchers around the central sunburst feature. The way the center seems to glow compared to the rest of the pattern is interesting. The story I hear in my head is about working through the brush and clutter that surrounds the central crux of our selves, where the dreams we hold lie waiting to be discovered.

Beautiful, Sue...amazing grace....saw Andrea and Gerard today and we went to Fire Island and on the beach there were four or five crows....prabably fish crows (they never called)....

I see dream catchers and shamans with their arms upraised. I see wings and seeds. And the light you captured in this is fantastic.

I also loved reading the back story on the photo. The moment transcended into the piece.

Gorgeous, just gorgeous. And so powerful. I'll be buying a print of it.
