This mandala speaks to me of metamorphosis and change. I see the faces of caterpillars in the central medallion and butterflies fllying towards the edge from that paler center. How fitting that this message of embracing change comes to us from the image of autumn leaves, which are all about change.
ellie - i love that you see those hard to miss faces belonging to caterpillars. i saw them as little E.T.'s myself, which may not be that far off! Who knows? Maybe those little guys we see this time of year always just debark from their space ships in October!
I just spent a pleasant hour annoying a caterpillar excessively in order to get a good picture of it, I think that might be why I saw the faces as that, besides it melded with the butterfly idea. They also have a "grasshopper" look too. . .
